The 53 mile drive had been a fairly pleasent one so far. Matt had been a real trouper driving the whole way. Lizzie was sitting next to him, admiring the country side. They were on a two lane road that moved with the land. There was thick, dark forest on either side of the road. The lawyer about 15 yards ahead of them, weaving sharply and obviously having a good time doing it. Lizzie was still shell shocked from the realty that had become her life. Sometimes it seemed too good to be true. She had what had to be one of the most wonderful husbands ever, they had managed to save enough money to keep them out of financial trouble and, they had inherited a House. Her late Uncle Terry had died and left everything to her. He had lived in the city, but had a summer house that he rarely stayed in. Actually, before the lawyer had called her, she hadn't really known anything about it. For some reason, her Uncle's summer house had never really been a hot topic of conversation in her family. Sadly, besides a few stray cousins and perhaps a great aunt or two, she was all that was left of her family. She cast a glance over at Matt who was in his own little world trying to keep up with the lawyer. She sighed and shifted in her seat. Thank God she had talked Matt out of a car with a leather interior; if not, on a day like this, she would be taking the seat with her when she eventually got out of the car.
The lawyers car finally showed signs of slowing down and Matt and Lizzie shifted expectantly. The car turned up a steep hill and Matt gave it plenty of room. When the road finally levelled out, it was noticeably smoother. It was paved and turned out to be a driveway. Up here, the land was well landscaped with tall rows of pine trees growing a couple of yards apart. Lizzie breathed and grabbed Matt's sleeve and began to tugg excitedly. Yes, she was a grown up and yes she was acting like a child. Matt laughed loudly and pulled a hand away from the steering wheel to wipe the sweat away from his forehead. She could tell he was about to explode with the anticipation of it all. The wall of pine trees opened to a lush, well-manicured lawn with statues keenly placed in various spots.
The lawn met up with the house. It was painted white with dark green shutters. There was a balcony over a culde-sac driveway. Fountains adorned the walkway leading to the oversized door to the house. Lizzies mouth sagged and Matt actually swerved a bit. They pulled up next to the lawyer and parked. They looked at each other and slowy smiled; then they yanked off their seatbelts and jumped out of the car.
