Thoughts on Demons and God.

Tue Mar 13, 2007, 6:52 AM
I watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose for the first time last night and it really was heart wrentching. I felt for that poor girl and when I looked her story up online, the pictures of the real 'Emily Rose' were even more saddening. I liked that movie...It brings up what many people, including many christians, are in denial about. The fact is that demons do exsist. The fact is that there is good and evil. The fact is that there is a heaven and a hell.
It is easier to turn a deaf ear to the exsistence of evil, demons and hell. Who wants to acknowledge that there is something horrible out there that can not be explained away and can not be controlled?
People today want a quick fix and a logical explanation for everything. That is why I really liked the defense attorney's closing statement. You don't have to beleive, but because it is not a fact that is does not exsist, you have to be open to the possibility.
At the same time, it is ludicris to beleive in the exsistence of God and angels, but to deny the existence of Satan and demons. What then would be the point in having need for God? God created man, mankind turned away from God and we now live in an imperfect world riddled with plagues, diseases, pain, suffering and imperfection. God made angels; a third of them turned away from God with Satan and now delight in the tormenting and destruction of that which was made in God's image.
Without the threat of imperfection and suffering and tormenting...what would we need God for? Some people as it is, only turn to God in times of trouble. If there were no trouble...who would ever turn to God? If there were no evil in the world, then why are there so many problems in the world?

Ah, there is nothing like reading about God and demons early in the morning. :D I am glad that you liked the movie, but I knew that you would.

I think there would still be a need or longing for God even if there was no evil (remember that there was no sin in Eden and God walked with Adam. Adam still needed and wanted God), but we would just be in a different place and would probably have easier fellowship with God. The fact that there is evil is why we are in the world we are in today. Uh . . . I don't know if I am making any sense.
